In recent years, the level of complexity and uncertainty has increased tremendously at companies across all different industries. The strategy process in the past could build on a relatively stable market environment, but that secure basis is no longer there. As the process becomes increasingly more challenging, CEOs rely more and more on the support of Chief Strategy Officers.

A recent study by the University St. Gallen in cooperation with Roland Berger Strategy Consultants was one of the first to investigate the role, background, behavior, agenda and benefits of Chief Strategy. The findings of the study were presented at the 7th Strategic Planner Circle.

Dr. Markus Menz, Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the University of St. Gallen, gave the keynote speech. He presented the key insights gained by the survey, conducted among 110 Strategists of the largest companies in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The results were illustrated with real-life examples from our strategy projects. Once again, the participants actively used the excellent platform to informally share opinions on the role of Chief Srategy Officers and other "hot topics" across a wide range of industries.
